Rainbow Beach brings together coloured sand cliffs, open beaches and the national park landscapes of the Cooloola coast. It’s a place for days on the water, walks with a view and trips to nearby K’gari (Fraser Island).
Travelling from Brisbane, head north on the Bruce Highway and follow the signs towards Rainbow Beach via Gympie. Allow time to enjoy the drive, with your journey depending on traffic and where you set off from.
For experienced four-wheel drivers, the beach route from Noosa North Shore offers another way to reach Rainbow Beach via Teewah Beach and Double Island Point. A high-clearance 4WD and vehicle access permit are required. Check tide times, current conditions and park alerts before travelling, as sections can be impassable even at low tide.
Once you’re here, walk to Carlo Sandblow, spend a day kayaking or fishing, or take a tour along the coast. There’s room for quieter days too, with beach picnics, a swim and local cafés, restaurants, clubs and the pub when it’s time for a meal.

A sand mass over 15 hectares in size, Carlo Sandblow offers an exceptional view of the towering coloured sands and the coastline from Double Island Point to Inskip Peninsula, and Fraser Island’s southern tip.

South of Rainbow Beach, dramatic cliffs of swirling coloured sands make for a spectacular sight. The cliffs extend along the beach towards Double Island Point.
Double Island Point
Featuring clear blue waters, dolphins and a historic lighthouse, Double Island Point is a picturesque headland with expansive views of the ocean and the beach.
Ocean Kayaking
Experience Double Island Point and the Great Sandy National Park from the water. Local activities include dolphin and seasonal whale kayak tours, surf lessons and safaris, and stand-up paddle eco tours.
Rainbow Beach Fishing
Beach fishing is one of the great attractions of Rainbow Beach, with plenty of ways to cast a line along the coast. Fishing boats can be hired for a half day or full day.
K’gari (Fraser Island)
K’gari (Fraser Island) is the world’s largest sand island. Its World Heritage status places it alongside Uluru, Kakadu and the Great Barrier Reef. Rainbow Beach is a gateway to the island.
